Join us for a conversation between artist Dr Chew Teng Beng and curator Mr Tan Sei Hon, featuring sharings and insights. 

Chew Teng Beng (1938-), born in Kuala Terengganu, is an outstanding Malaysian artist, scholar, and pioneer. His artistic practice spans painting, printmaking, and innovative handmade paper art. In 1967, with the support of a Fulbright scholarship, he pursued his art studies at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Subsequently, he earned his Bachelor of Fine Art (Hons) and Masters of Fine Art at the University of Michigan. In 1972, he founded the Fine Arts Department at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang, and in 1986, received his Ph.D from New York University. His PHD thesis, “Papermaking From Selected Malaysian Fibres: An Investigation of Its Artistic Potential Through Creation of Original Paper Artworks,” has made significant academic contributions to the fields of environmental sustainability and rural community development.

Tan Sei Hon (1975-), is an art educator, freelance art writer, and curator. He graduated from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2001, majoring in Applied Arts and Creative. Formally attached to the National Art Gallery and Galeri PETRONAS, since 2002, he has played an active role in the local art scene, curating over 40 exhibitions. Sei Hon has a particular interest in abstract art and works by self-taught and outsider artists.

Join us for an exciting and eco-friendly adventure as we delve into the world of seed paper making! In this workshop, you will learn the art of papermaking, at the same time you’ll also contribute to the environment by planting seeds that will blossom with love.


Edmund Low is a craft Instructor affiliated with Association of Art in Charity & Education (AACE). A portion of the workshop fees will be allocated to support educational initiatives for individuals with disabilities and disadvantaged groups.
