About Exhibition

In line with Soka Gakkai’s mission to promote culture and education for the peace and happiness of all humanity, Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) established Wisma Kebudayaan SGM (WKSGM) in Kuala Lumpur in 2001. Ever since the inception of WKSGM, various art exhibitions, art talks and international seminars have been held. SGM has made great efforts to expand waves after waves of cultural and peace exchanges and to create bonds of beautiful friendship.

Through these arts and culture activities, SGM has gained the trust and support from the public, especially those from the art circle. SGM also received donation of artworks from both local and international renowned artists.

In response to their generosity and trust, SGM held the “Exhibition of Donated Artworks by Renowned Malaysian Artists & Calligraphers,” showcasing selection of paintings and calligraphic works donated by local artists such Yiu Hong, Chu Chee Chuan, Foo Yong Kong, Cheah Thien Soong, Choong Kam Kow, Cheng Haw Chien and Tan Tong. A total of 55 works by 52 artists were on display, featuring artworks of various media, such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese ink, oil, acrylic, watercolour, print and photography. The display included a mixture of realistic, abstract, modern and traditional forms and styles, showing the rich and flourishing Malaysian art scene.

After the exhibition in Kuala Lumpur ended in June 2008, some of the works toured various SGM state culture centres for the benefit of people from all over the country. Upholding the principle of bringing art to the people, we hope this exhibition will contribute to elevate the human spirit.
