Opening Ceremony Highlight Photos

On 6 June 2026, in collaboration with Satu: Creative Collective and with support from Adaptive Design Matrix Development (ADMD) and Satu Tiga Studio, SGM held the opening ceremony of the “Harmony: In Colours and Combinations” exhibition at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM (WKSGM). The event was officiated by the National Cultural Council chairperson Tan Sri Datuk Hajah Norliza Rofli.

In his welcoming remarks, SGM president Johnny Ng expressed appreciation to the participating artists and reflected on the role of WKSGM over the past 25 years as a venue dedicated to peace, culture, education and dialogue. He voiced his hope that it would continue to inspire hearts through the arts for many years to come.

Dr Elias Yamani Ismail, cofounder of Satu: Creative Collective cum curator and participating artist, explained that the exhibition is structured around three phases: conventional appreciation of artworks, craftsmanship and artistic experimentation. He also thanked SGM for providing the space and opportunity to curate such a meaningful and engaging exhibition.

Delivering the opening address, Tan Sri Norliza shared her admiration for SGM’s longstanding commitment to cultural activities, particularly its participation in the annual National Day Parade. She noted that art and culture possess a unique power to connect people beyond their differences and achieve greater impact when channelled towards a common purpose.

Featuring works by six contemporary Malaysian artists – Ady Ezwan Nordin, Dr Elias Yamani Ismail, Faizal Suhif, Fakir Md Nor, Mohd Nizam Radzaly and Nik Mohd Husyaidie Che Hussin – the exhibition explores the concept of “mélange,” highlighting how diverse experiences, identities and artistic approaches can come together in meaningful and harmonious ways.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Wisma Kebudayaan SGM (WKSGM). The winners of the anniversary logo design open call were announced during the opening ceremony of “Harmony: In Colours and Combinations” exhibition on 6 June 2026.

The anniversary logo design open call, organised by SGM and Harmoni Soka Art and Culture, was open to participants of all ages and nationalities. The initiative aimed to encourage creative engagement, promote community participation, and discover new artistic talent while commemorating WKSGM’s milestone anniversary.

The winning logo was designed by Kelvin Chew, who shared that he approached the design with an open mind, using colours and lines to express the theme of “Harmony” while incorporating the significance of the 25th anniversary. He also expressed hope that more young people would be inspired to connect with arts and culture through WKSGM’s activities.

In addition to the Grand Award winner Kelvin Chew, the initiative also recognised four Excellence Award recipients and five Consolation Award recipients.

Participating artist of the aforementioned exhibition Mohd Nizam Radzaly congratulated WKSGM on its achievement and praised its longstanding efforts in serving the community through arts and cultural initiatives. He noted that platforms such as WKSGM create positive opportunities not only for artists but also for the wider community, helping future generations better understand the values and vision promoted by SGM.
