SMK Seafield Choir

On June 16, 2011, over thirty choristers from the Heidelberg Youth Choir from Germany performed in the auditorium of Wisma Kebudayaan SGM (WKSGM) with exquisite songs.

The Heidelberg Youth Choir is part of the music education program of the Music and Singing School in Heidelberg, Germany. The choir provides the opportunity to about 40 young people aged between 13 and 19 to develop not only their voices but also to learn musical and social skills while experiencing the enthusiasm of singing together.

Besides participating in the regular performances of the school, they appear in concerts, music theatre productions and collaborate with other music groups. Here, they collaborated with the SMK Seafield Choir, rendering a Malay traditional song, Chan Mali Chan. Together, they brought the evening to an end with an apt song, “Because We Are Friends”. The SMK Seafield Choir also rendered three songs.

Organised by the Goethe-Institute, the Young Choral Academy and SGM, and directed by Esther Witt, the Heidelberg Youth Choir fielded a repertoire which included songs from different musical genres, ranging from classical choral literature to popular settings of contemporary music. Apart from German, they also sang in English and French, telling of the yearning for summer days, the ease and joy of singing, and the life of a deaf boy, among others.
