Art Talk Intro:

Harmoni Soka is honoured to invite outstanding printmaker and professor of the Graduate School of Printmaking of National Taiwan University of Arts, Chung You-Hui, as the speaker of this special art talk entitled “Sustainability, Creation and Appreciation of Printmaking”. The session is chaired by the esteemed Malaysian artist and art educator, Head of Fine Art Department in Dasein Academy of Art, Kim Ng.

Professor Chung You-Hui is a senior artist who has dedicated over 50 years to the field of printmaking, both in Taiwan and abroad. He has an unwavering passion in printmaking. What motivates him to continue creating and sharing his work in this field? Moreover, how does Professor Chung manage to retain traditional techniques while incorporating contemporary conceptual forms into his creative process?

During this talk, Professor Chung will delve into his artistic journey and his experience in printmaking. He will discuss his inspiration, techniques, and tools used to create his finished works. The audience will also learn about his approach to colour, layering, and composition. 

The discussion between the speaker and the moderator, Kim Ng, will lead the audience through an exploration on the value of printmaking art and future trends, enhancing the appreciation towards printmaking.

This upcoming talk will be split into two parts. The first part is a keynote presentation by Prof. Chung and an exciting conversation with the moderator Mr Kim Ng on Prof. Chung’s inspirations and challenges, dedication towards printmaking art education and his advice to young artists. This will be followed by a Q&A session where the audience will have the opportunity to engage in a deeper conversation with the experts.

Chung You-Hui

Professor Chung You-Hui, born in Taipei in 1946, is an outstanding printmaker and a prominent figure in modern printmaking in Taiwan. He graduated from National Taiwan Normal University Department of Fine Arts in 1975, and earned his Master in art at University of Tsukuba in 1987. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the National Literary Arts Award at the International Biennial Print Exhibit R.O.C. and the Wu San-Lien Literary Award and Gold Prize at Qingdao International Print Biennale. Professor Chung was invited to teach at Taipei National University in Taiwan in 1992, and established the first printmaking centre and institute of printmaking art in Taiwanese universities.Devoting himself to advancing the education of modern printmaking art in Taiwan, he leverages his extensive international connections to facilitate exhibitions and exchanges, thus aligning Taiwanese modern printmaking with international standards.

Kim Ng

Kim Ng is a Malaysian artist and the Head of Fine Art program in Dasein Academy of Art. He earned an MA in Design and Media Arts from the University of Westminster and an MA by project from London Metropolitan University.  His artistic practice encompasses diverse mediums such as printmaking, mixed media painting, ceramics, sculpture, and installation art. He previously served as lecturer at the Department of Ceramics Kensington College, and Chelsea College at the University of Westminster, in London, and began teaching at the Dasein Academy of Art since 2002. He has more than 20 years of extensive experience in education. He has won awards both domestically and internationally, with his works being collected by private collectors and major organisations. Notable collections include the Bank Negara Malaysia and the Chongqing Municipal Museum, China.
