The Interweaving of Chinese Calligraphy and Western Watercolour

“Beyond the Visible: Stories of Aspiring Young Artists” welcomes its second young artist speaker in its art and culture talk series – Li Hua, the founder of Lihuà.

Lihuà, the eponymous brand founded by Li Hua and named after her Chinese name, combines the vividness of Chinese calligraphic lines with the splendour of Western watercolours to create stylish illustrations with a strong personal touch. Her paintings of individualised and unique female faces and figures, each with its charm and spirit, are favoured by major international renowned fashion brands.

Since the brand started in 2011, Lihuà has worked with renowned brands such as Bulgari, Christian Louboutin, Chanel, Chaumet, Prada, Longines, Faber-Castell, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, as well as fashion magazines such as PIN PRESTIGE and Elle. Li Hua believes that a painting cannot be just a piece of ornament, with an absence of a soul.

Wong Lai Wah (Li Hua) was born in 1990 in Kedah, Malaysia. Li Hua graduated from The One Academy in 2011 with a Diploma in Illustration and continued as a lecturer at her alma mater. In 2015, she went to Birmingham City University for further studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Design and Visual Communications in 2016. Since 2018, Li Hua has worked as a lecturer at Esmod, Kuala Lumpur.

Join us on 31 December 2022 for a conversation with Li Hua, a young and beautiful fashion illustrator, lecturer and entrepreneur, who will share her artistic journey, how she overcomes deadlocks in her creative life and pursue her passion for both art and business. This art talk will be held online in Mandarin. Please click “here” to register.
